|Notes on SUMMER||view bio|
There is something about summer, when time’s passing is not cause to hurry or stress, but rather something to savor. The sun drifts across bare skin, in and out of clouds, and we give ourselves permission to let its movement define the day. Children, most of all, have reason to love summer, a cherished respite from school; their bliss is a poetic reminder to adults to enjoy every moment of our own freedom. Lloyd Ziff has been photographing his friends and their children for years. He says his best-selling image, Father and Son, Orient Point, taken in 1979, is beloved because it captures a rare, uninhibited intimacy between a father and his son. All of Ziff’s subjects, young and older, exude a captivating serenity; they seem to embody his vision of a perfect state of being.
